Technology is advancing rapidly in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry. Orthodontics is no exception! In our office, we pride ourselves on using the best technology available to make sure we are achieving an optimal result. The i-CAT FLX series 3D CBCT is one of the best dental radiographic imaging systems available today. The i-CAT produces clear, 3-dimensional images of the patient’s oral-facial complex, instead of the 2-dimensional images of traditional X-rays. Best of all, this scanner accomplishes its job with less radiation than traditional X-ray scanners, making for a safer and more accurate diagnosis process.

The i-CAT is used most often by orthodontists, oral maxillofacial surgeons and oral radiologists. However, this system is ideal for any dentist who wishes to view the entire oral-facial complex. The i-CAT allows us to measure more features of a patient’s mouth than ever before, including the patient’s airways. Our doctors have been following studies that show our airways have much to do with oral growth and development: therefore we can tailor our treatments if necessary to improve overall airflow.

The i-CAT offers scans that last 5, 9 seconds, or 14 seconds while the patient remains in the exam chair. Some of the procedures we use the i-CAT scanner for include:

  • Cephalometric and Panoramic radiographs
  • Full facial and jaw 3D images
  • Impactions
  • TMJ treatment
  • Airway assessments and sleep apnea
  • Wisdom teeth extractions
  • And more!

The next time you visit Southeast Orthodontics, ask us about the i-CAT, and we’ll be glad to tell you all about it. And if you happen to be in for an X-ray, you’ll see for yourself the amazing images it generates of your mouth and airways. More data leads to more accurate appliances and better overall oral health!
